Out of the box they had an overpowering, rather unpleasant tone. Because of the driver type, a burn in period is apparently required. I let them run on the desk and checked them a couple of hours later and they had settled down quite a bit already. After about 8 hours of run time I was quite pleased with the sound. My old faithful Koss sound really muddy by comparison. They are not going to kick you in the head with bass if that is your thing, but I finally knew what reviewers were referring to when they spoke of “sound field”. Bright (not tinny) and clean with a true reproduction.
