Plugin Junkie

in: wordpress plugin

When I first made the switch from Blogger to a domain base WordPress blog I was overwhelmed to say the least. It felt like I would never get the hang of using this blogging platform and for a while I even regretted investing in a domain. As with all things experience has a way of changing your opinion and I must confess I am now a huge WordPress fan. One of my favorite aspects of this platform is just how much it can be tailored to meet the needs of each site and blogger’s preferences. Searching for new plugins has become almost a daily ritual and my dashboard continues to grow because of this obsession. Everyone has a few favorite that they can’t live without and I thought I might share some of my newest acquisitions:

All In One SEO Pack

META tags are extracted from your posts/pages like this:

* Your categories become your META keywords.
* Your excerpt is used as META description (put effort into that one, it will pay off).
* Additional custom fields named “keywords” and “description” are taken into account for backwards compatibility with Another Wordpres Meta Plugin.
* Your titles are rewritten. Actual post title comes first, then your blog name. Not the other way round.

Alexa Domain Rank

Displays your Alexa Rank on your WordPress dashboard. How handy is this for those of us needing up to stay on top of Alexa changes from day to day?

Google Sitemap Parser

Generates the output from sitemap.xml to the sitemap page.

Login Anywhere

This plugin is incredibly handy. How many times to you need to write a post in a hurry and then have to wait to go through the entire login process before actually being able to start writing? This has come in useful with a couple of template I have tested out.

This plugin allows you to insert a login form anywhere in your blog (header, sidebar, etc.) by adding to wherever you want the code to be generated. All you need to do is upload the file to your plugins directory, and enable it from the admin panel. If the user is logged in, it will give them the option to logout.

These are just a sampling of this week’s favorites. Be sure to drop me a line if you have come across any that you can’t live without!
