Internet Safety

in: internet

Our entire family is extremely dependent on the internet for a number of things. Even at a very young age we introduced our son to age appropriate computer games and websites. He is now extremely well versed in searching the web for things that peak his interest. This poses a couple of problems in that I can’t always sit by his side every minute of the day and secondly the topics that peak his interest might not be suitable. With all the press about internet predators every parent should be concerned about what their children are looking at online. We all know you can use parental controls, put the computer in a conspicuous area of your home, and be present to watch your kids but they still can find ways to access information that is undesirable. There is now another tool available to parents to keep on top of what your kids are searching the internet for. This software is called a keystroke recorder and allows you to record what information is being typed into the system and track use. With a keylogger you will have information at hand to have an open dialogue with you children about safe internet practices and to take further precautions as necessary to keep them safe.

As a parent it is impossible, as much as you would like, to be in the room every minute your children are online. You want to give them some freedom but still keep tabs on who they are talking to and what they are viewing online without sitting right beside them. Curiosity often gets the better of children and before they know it they are visiting sites and exposing personal information that seems harmless to them. Protecting your children when you can be there means putting every tool possible to work to protect your family.
