Can I be that old?
Posted by The Inspector on September 8th, 2007 filed in familyHaving young children in our home we tend to forget exactly how old we truly are. This week I received a phone call from a high schol buddy of mine who wanted to get together. Next year will be my 20th high school reunion which seems truly impossible but give you an idea of just how old I am. Seeing my friend only was nice but clearly we are living in different worlds. His oldest son is a senior in high school and wants to go to Collins College to learn how to design video games. He is currently feeling the pressure of soon having to finance a college education and watching his child go off on his own in the world.
When you consider that my oldest son is in the second grade and has just mastered riding a bike you can see how different our lives are. The funny thing is that my buddy has been married for 18 years which is just shy of two years longer than my wife and I. In that time our world took very different paths. Listening to the troubles of raising teenagers I am very thankful to be parenting little people. I would rather have a sleepless night because of my one year old than because my teen is out till all hours of the night. The funny this when my son is a senior in high school by then my buddy could very well be a grandparent!
