As part of one of my many internet based jobs I am contracted to provide feedback to webmasters about their websites. It always amazes me the number of websites that while for the most part are well put together have on the other hand given very little thought to choosing a domain name. For instance if you are going to develop a site around a topic like malignant mesothelioma it would not be good to place this on a domain such as bigredballoon.com. The Tech Inspector is yet another prime example of this. The domain that houses this blog was purchased with the intent of moving a blog hosted on a free platform to this domain. At the last minute I decided that it would be more beneficial to leave that blog where it is and develop this domain for another purpose. It would be far better for readers and for SEO purposes if there was a clear connection between the blog’s name and the url. Given that this is not a highly monetized website this is a sacrifice I have chosen to make. It must be stressed however that if you intend to develop a business or monetize a site this important detail should be considered in advance of purchasing a domain.
