One of my friends works for a major internet search engine. As part of his job he is responsible to analyzing the different ways people might enter a search request into the system to retrieve a desired response. One of the main thing he is always complaining about it how much time people waste trying to retrieve information simply because they do not enter clear and concise search information. For example people often merge words together such as “directbuy” when they really mean “direct buy” or “buy direct”. Another mistake people make is entering vague search request such as “and together we can”. This type of search request will bring up countless sites that simply contain any variation of the search terms together or randomly on the page. I am always amazed by the number of people who complain about how difficult it is for them to find anything on the internet. After listening to my friend detail how indirectly people go about accomplishing searches it really should not surprise me in the least. Of course if people were to become more informed about conducting proper search requests my friend just might be out of a job!
