Getaway?

I am thinking of taking my 9 year old son and 62 year old mother on a trip someplace warm over the winter. It is just going to be a weekend getaway as my son is in school. Here are our varied requirements:

* I like the outdoors…really want to go to the south. We love national parks.
* Highs at least in the 60s!
* My Mom likes the glitz of the big city and I need to include some excitement for her
* My mother can’t walk too much making a road trip ideal.

Any ideas or am I in a dream world? I was considering looking into Outer Banks rentals but don’t really know if they fit my requirements? If you have ever been there drop a comment and let me know what you think. Would this be a place our family would enjoy?
