Slobber…

We are just about ready to rack of first batch of home brewed beer. The name of the beer we have been brewing is “Caribou Slobber”. Not a very attractive name is it? This beer is actually a clone of a beer called “Moose Drool”. This is our first home brewing experience. I have tried brewing wine a few time in the past. Wine is a bit more tricky than beer and my results have been so-so. We decided to give beer brewing a chance because it seems to have more uses in cooking than wine. Beer can be used in soups, stews, and bread. We bake a ton of bread and love beer bread. If this batch goes well, we hope to try more complicated recipes. I will say that home brewing is not that cheap to get into unless you have a source of free beer bottles. It is pretty hard to come by because most beer makers use twist off beer bottles. Twist off bottles are not recommended for home brewing. We ended up buying pop top beer bottles and having them shipped to us. The cost per bottle of finished beer is going to be about $2.00 per bottle. Of course this will go down significantly as we reuse the bottles and equipment.
