Expanding the coop.
Posted by The Inspector on December 1st, 2010 filed in UncategorizedOur chickens are now 2.5 months old. They will begin laying eggs in another 1.5 months. The type of chicken that we have are a hybrid bred specifically for early and highly productive egg production. It is hard to believe that that are as big as they are considering that they are only a couple of months old. I now realize that it is important for them to have room to stretch their legs a little further than they can at this point. They are currently housed in a very nice multi-level coop built into our garage. When I built it I figured that they would mature at a slower rate than they have and that I would have time to expand the coop to include a run. I now realize I need to finish the run sooner rather than later. They haven’t begun to show any bad behaviors you might expect from being cooped up and I don’t want them to. I am going to be building a run for them this weekend. They should be able to enjoy it for a while before the temperatures drop too much.
