The push is on.

We are not the type of parents that try to push our children to become something in particular when they grow up. All we want for our children is to be happy, productive, and self-sufficient people. I was a little bit surprised this week when our older son’s cyber school hosted a course focusing on college preparation. Our son is in 5th grade which makes college seem like a distant thing to us all. Our son has no clue what he wants to become when he grows up. To him everything sounds like the ideal career choice. One week he might want to be a farmer and the next he will tell you that he wants a finance job. Both my wife and I feel that an education is important but we also feel that children are pushed into decision they aren’t ready to make at such tender ages. Honestly, the career I believed I wanted at age 18 is very different from the one I would chose today. I almost believe that if we all had a little more life experience under our belts before embarking on pursuing a career that we would ultimately make more informed decisions for ourselves.
