It is funny how things change over time. In the twenty years we have been married I have slowly transitioned in my role in my wife’s family. Once upon a time I was seen as the bumbling guy who didn’t know how to do anything. I don’t really know why this role was assigned to me because I have always been pretty handy. In the last few years it has somehow become clear to her family that I am indeed a capable guy. Since then I have become the guy who can fix things. It seems like on a weekly basis my mother-in-law is bringing me things that need repaired. I felt flattered at first because it made me feel like they finally could see that I wasn’t some an idiot. Today, I feel a little put off in the fact that it is just assumed I have the time and inclination to fix everything and anything.
