Volunteering…

We always try to teach our children to be kind to other people and to help our community when we can. I have been volunteering with my son’s Boy Scout troop for the last year. Recently they asked me to take charge of a project and I agreed without realizing what I had gotten myself into. Our troop collects pop cans at fairs and community events and then turns them in for cash. I didn’t quite grasp the volume of cans they collect when I agreed to be in charge of sorting and turning in the cans for the refunds on them. As much as I want to bow out of this job I realize that in doing so I would be sending a message to my son that it is okay to leave big jobs for other people. I am going to keep plugging away at the job but I am going to suggest that it be assigned to a couple of adults rather than just myself. Not having a truck makes transporting thousands of cans a big of a task.
