Asking for advice…

This week a friend of mine asked my opinion about children having cell phones. It seems that her daughter has been asking relentlessly for a cell phone. She actually wants a very specific brand of phone and everything that goes with it such as . portable phone batteries. This friend is about to give in and get her daughter the phone because she considers it a safety issue. Her daughter has used the angle that in not having a cell phone is dangerous and she should have one in order to be able to reach her mother in an emergency. My friend says she would feel guilty if her daughter couldn’t reach her and something happened. While I can understand this point of view I don’t think that it should dictate the brand of phone purchased. A plain ordinary cell phone would work just as well in an emergency as a more equipped one. I think that her daughter is manipulating her emotions to get a new gadget she wants rather than a device for personal safety. What would you advise this friend to do?
