Cracked sweet potatoes…

We finally got to harvest our crop of sweet potatoes. Never having grown sweet potatoes we had no idea what to expect in terms of yield. We ended up with about 25 pounds or maybe 2 pounds per plants. Not stellar results but enough that we were not sorely disappointed. Many of them we cracked which surprised us. As it turns out this is because of the drought we experienced this summer which was follow by constant rain in their final weeks of growth. There isn’t much we can do about that sort of thing. I don’t know if we will try sweet potatoes again next year because I can’t say yet if they justify space in the garden or not.
