Free food…

There are quite a number of things I have learned over the last couple of years that I never thought I would have learned. I now know how to can, make soap, and raise chickens to name just a couple. We have been working hard to be as self-sustaining as possible. We grow whatever food we can and try to get the rest from local sources. One thing we have been learning to do accept free food when offered. By free food I mean apples and fruit from the trees or bushes of people who don’t want or can’t use it. This year we have gotten about 10 bushels of free apples and pears. This equates to almost a year’s supply of sauce, juice, and fruit for our family. The one thing we have learned to do it to take food even if we don’t really need it. Somehow we find a way to preserve it and this keeps us in the mind’s of people for the next year. When you don’t take stuff one year people are less likely to offer it the next time they have it.
