Gifts…

My father used to be the type of guy who did not part with his money very easily. Over the last few years that has changed and he seems to buy anything and everything. Whenever he comes for a visit we can be guaranteed that he will come with a bag of gifts in hand. Our children end up with everything from water bottles to funny tshirts whenever their grandfather stops by. This week my father mailed my older son a Halloween cookbook. I am not quite sure why he thought our son needed a cookbook focused on Halloween but I am sure he had a reason. At least the recipes are something that my wife might be able to put to some use. The same cannot be said for every growing collection of luggage tags, calendars, and letter openers. Without fail my dad seems to bring us these on a regular basis. I think he gets them for free and it seems wrong to him to just throw them out and instead he brings them to us as a “gift”.
