In an effort to expand my global appeal I have been experimenting with a variety of wordpress plugins for translation with limited success. Today I was reading one of my favorite blogs and Lorelle highlighted a translation plugin that sounds exactly like what I have been searching for!

Lorelle discusses several plugins but it was the first plugin she pointed out that hit home for my needs ~Wordpress Global Translator:

Overview

Global Translator supports blog written on the following languages (not only english ones):

    * English
* French
* Italian
* German
* Portuguese
* Spanish
* Japanese
* Korean
* Chinese
* Arabic
* Russian
* Greek
* Dutch

The number of the available translations depends on the your blog’s language; if your blog is written in english then 13 translations will be available for you!

Requirements

Global Translator has been tested on Wordpress 2.0.3, 2.0.4 and 2.1.1.

Other details can be found at the link listed above. I have nothing solid yet to say that offering translation of my blog will have any bearing on driving traffic to my sites. I just found it quite interesting that one of my favorite bloggers had the solution I needed. I put out the call on several forums for favored translation plugins but have yet to find one I felt was a keeper. Drop me a line if you have something you like and I will be happy to check it out!

I am a WordPress plugin junkie. I spend far more time than is actually good for me looking for new ways to customize my WordPress blogs. One of my favorite plugins is the Add-Meta-Tags plugin. I noticed dramatically improved SEO for my sites almost immediately after activating this plugin. This is what the Add-Meta-Tags plugins does”

The following list outlines how and where META tags are added to a WordPress blog by this plugin. Please note that this list does not provide all the details you need to know about how to customize the added metatags. Its purpose is to provide a general idea of what this plugin supports. For detailed info, proceed to the next section.

    * Front Page
o Automatically.
o Customization is possible from the plugin’s configuration panel.
* Single Posts
o Automatically.
o Customization of the “description” META tag:
+ either via custom excerpt
+ or via custom field (note that this overrides the custom excerpt).
o Customization of the “keywords” META tag via custom field only.
* Static Pages
o No automatic generation of meta tags.
o Customization is possible with custom fields like it can be done in posts.
* Category Archive Pages
o The description of the category, if set, is used for the description META tag. The name of the category is always used at the keywords metatag.
